Automap is a netmap configuration utility for QNX 4.
One of the most annoying configuration issues with QNX 4 is setting up the local area network configuration. Each node needs to know the Ethernet addresses and node numbers of all the other computers in the network. If you change out a network card, that node can no longer communicate with the other QNX computers.
If you are a system administrator, this is merely annoying, because you can edit the /etc/config/netmap file on all of the computers. However if you have a production system, you may not have someone on site to do this when a network card fails. Also, if you bring your laptop to your customer's network, you need to set up the netmaps of all of your customer's computers for it to work.
Automap is a utility that uses its own broadcast protocol to identify all the QNX 4 computers on the network. It updates the netmap accordingly, so like magic all the problems of incorrectly configured QNX 4 networks are gone.
Automap is extremely easy to use. Just add the automap command to run in your /etc/config/sysinit file for each node, just after the network has started. Add your laptop to the network. Change out a defective network card. With Automap, all the QNX 4 computers will be notified of the changes dynamically.
Automap is easily purchased too. Call Qenesis and you can download the software for quick installation, or we can e-mail it to you.
Special site licensing terms are available, so you can conveniently include a copy of Automap with each system that you ship. Tell us your situation and we can arrange something that meets your requirements.
